Agricultural Production

6. There are still too many people engaged in agriculture. There are about 800,000 agricultural households, with an average of just one hectare of land each, too small for efficient agricultural production. The government has recently been trying to get farmers to enlarge their land to increase productivity and gain economies of scale.

7. Agricultural production has grown faster than population in Taiwan. Agriculture's steady growth is due to the attention given to this sector by the government.

8. The main agricultural products in Taiwan include hogs, rice, poultry, shrimp, eels, squid, tuna, granulated sugar and bananas. There is enough to both satisfy the domestic market and still have some left over for export.
